We talked in class today about first amendment rights for students. Long story short, students have a right to free speech, but schools have certain rights to ban stuff that could be super offensive or disruptive. More info here, if you’re so inclined.
There was a lot of debate going on in class over whether certain statements should be legally ban-able (particularly the statement “the gene pool could use a little chlorine” which is available on t-shirts, but hasn’t actually ever gone to court…yet).
Legally, drawing the line is like this:
